We in the team are big fans of corduroy, and so we are excited to finally come up with our own product made of this sturdy fabric.  Introducing the LD Manchester Trouser made of the classic 8-wale corduroy in Caramel.

Corduroy is a textile with a distinct pattern, which are series of cords.  The number of cords per square inch is called the size of the wale (i.e., the number of ridges per inch).  It is a hard-wearing fabric that has its origins from long ago but the corduroy we recognize today originated from 19th century Manchester, England where its sturdiness made it popular as factory wear.

"It was also adopted as part of military uniforms - including the corduroy breeches worn by the Women’s Land Army during World War II. In the post-war period, corduroy’s popularity waxed and waned until it was revived by the 1960s counter-culture. Edward Heath – The President of the Board of Trade even claimed that The Beatles "saved the British corduroy industry".

Corduroy reached peak popularity in the 1970s, where it was worn as a symbol of anti-establishment. Loved by musicians, artists and directors - it has been famously worn by Woody Allen, Bob Dylan, Pablo Picasso and Wes Anderson."

We chose to do a classic pleated design and fit with our corduroy trouser release.  The fabric is from Collect Japan, and features nifty details such as deadstock buttons from Japan, an extended waistband construction, chambray pcoket bags, and an interesting secret pocket integrated into one of the pleats.
